how can i settle a lien debt without paying off my home?

Believe it or not, it is possible to do this - especially with the current state of the housing market.

Whomever has placed a lien on your home is probably well aware that the home's value has decreased over the years, and will probably be more than happy to accept at least something now, rather than waiting years to receive the full balance.

Contact the party who placed the lien and offer them a settlement - simple as that. You'll want to outline your hardship, and point out the fact that you want to pay them something, but you don't feel that you ever will if you wait for the sale of the home.

Good luck!
