I have a loan with Eastside Lenders for 750.00 - I have paid them 1400.00 in interest/fees and 100.00 in principal - I closed my checking account and they have Alliance Asset calling me - Alliance says my balance owed is 2800.00! I spoke to a Dan Dwyer and he said to pay 675.00 (225.00 for three payperiods). I am not doing that - they are calling me non-stop. I live in New Jersey, what are the laws - I filed a complaint again Eastside with the FTC
Well, after much persistence ESL is issuing me a refund check for the full amount I requested. I've asked they send it via mail or Western Union. I should be getting it in 2 days. I will keep you posted.

I'm currently requesting a refund from ESL and they offered to have my loan "Paid In Full". I rejected the offer via the BBB. I want a refund for all over-payments. By the way prior to them offering me the "Paid In Full" they had already sent me to collections which I will be fighting too. Don't settle for a "Paid In Full" demand your refund.

Laura,
Do not pay it. Check with your state's Department of Banking. Since PDL's are illegal in NJ, it is very possible your state has filed a Consent Order and Agreement with them and they may be obligated to pay you any interest you paid in excess of the percentage allowed by your state from a non-mortgage loan. I am becoming a pro at this as I was in your situation a few months ago. After closing my account, I contacted the Department of Banking in PA (where I live) and they have taken over everything. I got an email the other day that PA had sent this order to ESL and I should be receiving a refund by the end of the month. When they call, ask for their name and number and tell them you need it because you know the loan they are referencing in illegal in the state of NJ. You are bound by those laws. Tell them you have contacted the Department of Banking and you will be reporting their name and number to them. Most likely they will hang up on you or say something very vulgar to you (I have had a few of those). And they will never call again!!!!

Thank you so much!!! Eastside is ruthless - the women from there told me that there was nothing wrong with paying three times the amount for a loan since you pay three times for your house and your car!
I had another payday loan which I paid over the loan amount by about 300.00 in "fees" - when I called them from the branch of my bank - they told me that it was PIF and not to worry about making another payment.

My previous poster is right. All the payday lenders are illegal in New Jersey. You will be glad to know that illegal lenders can’t take any legal action against you.

Payday loans are prohibited in New Jersey. You only owe the principal amount. You have paid much more than the principal amount already. Ask them to give you a refund.
Check out the pdl laws from this link:

If you call ESL and make an arrangement with them, they will take your payments and apply them to your account. I had borrowed 700 and couldn't keep up with the payments each payday. I called them and they worked with me to make more manageable bi-weekly payments and I was able to pay off the loan saving the high interest
