Can someone please help me resolve overwhelming payday loan debts?
I am a VT resident. I have 7 payday loans that have totaled near $3000. I have closed out the bank account that they were taking the money out of and I refuse to pay them another dime until someone like a judge or lawyer tells me otherwise. I have been informed by Legal Aid, lawyers and The Banking Commission not to pay another dime since payday loans are illegal in VT. Now that I have talked to two of the seven lenders and told them that I have been informed not pay them another dime and they turn around and ask me that you did get the money and I said of course but this is before I found out that they are illegal in my state. Am I wrong for standing my ground and not paying them? I think I have the right to refuse paying them since they are illegal, and yes i may have \"participated in a illegal action\" according to one of the callers but they should have never given me the money in the first place. Am I wrong in thinking that way? I have offered to pay via money order but they refuse. Then my thinking was, why should I pay for something that\'s illegal in the first place?
