If I ask for validation of a debt from a collectio

If I ask for validation of a debt from a collection agency, and they send me a bill with a balance forward on it, I was told this is unacceptable. They need to show me how they came up with the balance I owe since I am disputing the amount. Is this correct?

Yes, this is not an appropriate validation letter. You can again send them a validation letter via certified mail with a return receipt request. If they do not reply, then you can send them a “Cease and Desist letter”. Following link may help you to write a proper validation letter request:
