How can I pay the ambulance bill?

I got beaten up very badly few days back. Someone called an ambulance for me and I was transported to a hospital. I have been released from hospital yesterday. I am fine now. I have received an ambulance bill worth $1500. The person who called the ambulance didn’t pay the bill. I didn’t call the ambulance either. I don’t have any insurance and I can’t pay that bill. What should I do now?

I got an ambulance free- it was over $2200 for a 4 mile ride. All I had was an asthma attack- didn't even want to go to the hospital- just needed a little inhaler.

Even after my insurance paid most of it- they are asking $300 more dollars from my pocket to compensate for the 4 miles of travel. I'm sorry, but a gallon of gas is $3.50 - how did 4 miles turn into $300?

These people are scamming us, they know they are in a possition of power- and can write down any amount they want. I'm going to refuse to pay the bill untill they prove the compesation costs are equal to what i am paying.

I was rear-ended while waiting at a red light; cars destroyed but I was not seriously hurt.  I helped the other driver with first aid until the ambulance arrived (he had a broken leg)..and I called for a taxi to take me to my motel (I'm an airline pilot flying out of DFW) so I'm not a resident of this area.  A paramedic tried to bully me into allowing her to: "check me out"...I told her "do not touch me".  despite this, she continued to press the issue until I had to gently push her away and march her over to a local cop (by the hair) and ask him to make sure that she understood my decision to decline emt care.  finally, she relented and I released her ponytail......this is America, when a competent person tells an emt to:"back off" that means exactly that....

Judi...how did you break your leg?  Did your insurance cover this bill, or don't you have any insurance either?  If your surgeons bill was only $2200 as well, that's pretty amazing.  Do any of you support your local ambulance service and pay for a membership?  An ambulance membership is not very expensive, and if you have one, they will not charge you a co-pay, they just charge your insurance.

For the guy that got beat up, that bill will be covered by the person that assaulted you should they catch him.  Also, what were the circumstances of the fight?  Where did it occur?

It is outrageous and unconsciable what they are charging simply to transport someone to the hospital. I had a broken leg and went 10 miles. All they did was take me 10 miles, draw some blood and give me some pain meds. It is $2,200.00. They tell me they charge so much to make up for others who don't pay. Well I agree with the person who said if it was within a reasonable limit then maybe more people would pay. I was expecting about $800.00. It is at a limit which makes is impossible to be able to pay and highly out of the realm of the services rendered. The surgeon is about the same as a 10 mile transport.

Ambulance fees are off the chart. If the prices they charge were not highway robery rates, perhaps people would feel better about paying them. Even when the ambulance was ordered by a third party and the sick person didn't want it.

You had the right to refuse treatment ... Obviously you did not excersize your right so now you have a bill ... In some instances if you were treated by a volunteer ambulance corps you might not have to pay it ... So the side of the ambulance says SMALLVILLE VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE you might not have to pay... There are instances where you still have to pay ... treated by Advanced Life Support ALS.

They trick you into allowing you to help them by saying \" I am going to check you out ... OK? \" you say \"sure\"  you just gave them consent to treat.

Your best recourse is the person who beat you up should be arrested, and sued for pain and suffering ,assault, and medical costs.. Then folks like me are on his/her ass ... and everyone is off yours :) Someone knows who did it to you even if you do not ... Put an add on craigslist about the fight!!

GOOD LUCK!!

Well... though you haven\'t called the ambulance, you have taken the services of the ambulance. As a result, you\'re liable for paying the bill. As you don\'t have an insurance, you\'ll be liable for paying the bill out of your pocket. If you don\'t pay the bill, it will go into collections.

As you do not have any insurance, you can negotiate with the ambulance company and explain them your situation. Otherwise, you may get help from a reliable debt consolidation company to repay your ambulance bill.
