Would paying it off be my best option?

I have an old account from 2001 with a balance of $282 that is still showing on my CR. The SOL for my state is ten years. What do I do to get it off of my report? Would paying it off be my best option?

Negative items remain on your credit report for 7 years from the date of your first default. After 7 years it will automatically be removed from your credit report. Since it hasn’t happen and the item is still showing on your credit report, so you should immediately dispute with the credit bureaus regarding this matter.

Reporting SOL is 7 years...when was the date of your last payment??  If it was more than 7 years ago, dispute it with the credit bureaus as obsolete.
