Will the bank shield my checking account?

The internal collection department of AMEX has frozen my checking account. I have only SS money in that account. I thought SS benefits are exempt from garnishment. Am I wrong? Can my bank do anything about this?

No, you are absolutely right. Social Security benefits are exempt from garnishment. The CA is not allowed to withdraw money from your Social Security Account. You can inform your bank manager about this matter in writing. You can also enclose the proper document with the letter to prove that Social Security benefit is your only source of income.
