Is there any way to find out the exact correct amount

I am asked from merchandise that I would have to pay 4 % extra if I use my credit card. Is there any way to find out the exact correct amount I should be paying for using the credit card? That is how I ensure that the merchant is not charging extra than what the credit card company is charging him for any transaction with my credit card.

Yes, for VISA transactions you'll need to call 1-800-visa911. For MASTERCARD, you'll probably need to call 1-800-MASTERCARD.

No you cannot find out the exact amount.  However it is against visa/mastercard regulations to pass fees onto the customer for using their credit card.

VISA states that "you may not impose any surcharges on VISA transactions. You may, however, offer a discount for cash or another form of payment (e.g., proprietary card or gift certificate) provided that the offer is clearly disclosed to customers and the cash price is presented as a discount from the standard price charged for all other forms of payment"1

MasterCard states that "A Merchant must not directly or indirectly require any Cardholder to pay a surcharge or any part of any Merchant discount or any contemporaneous finance charge in connection with a Transaction. A Merchant may provide a discount to its customers for cash payments."

If his was a VISA transaction, call 1-800-visa911.  Not sure on the Mastercard number.
