I have a signed contract from a debt collector and have been sending the agreed payments for approx. 5 months. The debt is set to be paid off next month according to the payment plan. Last week, I received a letter from the debt collector claiming the original pay off amount was more than the contract stated AND that full pay off was now required by 10/21. What steps do I now take?

You should contact with the collection agency and inform them about the contract. You can also tell them that you will not pay more than the contract amount. After that if they are still trying to harass you, then you can file a complaint against them to the State Attorney General or FTC.

Have you called and talked to them??
