How should I deal with the contractor?

I had installed a new window frames in my house last year. The installment company did a very bad job. I have paid the installation company earlier. I just didn’t make the last payment as they nearly damaged my window. The company didn’t say anything to me. In fact, they deleted the charge from my bill.

Yesterday, I got a call from the installation company. The representative told me that they are sending a notice to pay the remaining amount. I said to him that I will not pay the amount since they haven’t done the job properly.

Will the installation company assign the account to a CA? How can I protect myself?

They may assign the account to the collection agency. However, this does not imply that you should pay the money. You should defend yourself against the bill for bad work.

They will probably send it to collections unless you a complaint or make a proper complaint.  Do it in writing.
