Hi, I Wrote an email to advancemetoday.com citing the laws in NYS and also spoke to the gentleman on the phone who claimed that they were located outside of NYS so that they were covered by federal law. I balked at him and told him what exact federal statute or law is he referencing since there is non in regard to a payday loan. I have demanded a refund for overpayment in the account, as I have borrowed $1000, and paid them $2048 in the past 5 months. Of course the balance is still over $1200 with them. I've complained to the FTC, BBB, and to the NY AG - however I was told that takes 6-10 weeks for the AG to respond.

Can this lender with a PO box in NY, Costa Rica, and St Vincent & the Grenadines actually cause any harm to my credit? I wouldn't mind settling with them for $100, however I haven't said this to them just yet. I wrote to Cashjar.com and they were more than happy to settle with a payment of $197 towards the principle, and oneclickcash also agreed to a paydown towards the principle with no further finance fees. So I am very excited about the posts and guidance you have made. However this one last advancemetoday is worrying me a tad. What could I expect next?

Nelly is right. Ask them for the refund since you have overpaid them. Have a look at this page to know how to handle illegal lenders: http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/paydayloan/dealingwith-illegallende...

The payday loan company can't harm you since they are illegal. Don't pay any money to them. You deserve to get a refund.

They are outside the US....no one can force them to return the overpayment.

As for their response letter, it is a lot of BS...they know as well as you do what the laws are.
