Hello, We received a call from a collection agenc
We received a call from a collection agency named "Federal Check Processing" claming that they are collecting on a CashnetUSA payday debt and they are claiming check fraud since I didnt pay it off. This was due to my bank account getting closed. He is saying they will take us to court.
He says they have a criminal complaint for passing bad check over state lines.
The caller ID is 210-319-4923 and says to call him at 888-792-3330.
We believe he has been calling since the beginning of December and each time stating that they need reply or else will go to court. But since we were out of town, we missed these calls.
Today's call stated the file is with their attorneys but they want to resolve out of court.
I found on another forum called collectors exposed that it is a scam.
So what should we do?
We want to payoff the debt, but want to make sure we pay the right people.
Also, I think they might have been calling my work like the HR dept.
I dont want them talking to people and claiming check fraud.
Did I commit check fraud?
Can they take me to court?
What should I do next and still make sure they don't call my work?
I read that I should do a validation of debt or debt verification?
There seems to be a time limit on those, but does it start from when they first start
calling me or when I first make contact with them?
I've been scammed before ( I think) and they all seem to have all my info, like SS# and bank account info.
So how do I know if they are real or fake?
