Can a debt collector put a lien on real property, like your home? Is there any circumstance that someone could put a lien against your home other than a contractor or an association?

Soaplady is right. If you are not able to repay your debt on time, then the collection agency can file a lawsuit against you. Once the court issues a judgment against you, then the collection agency can get the right to place a lien on your property. That’s why it is better to repay the debts asap.

If you are sued, and a judgement is won, the plaintiff  can get a lien placed against your home thru the courts..
