Can I transfer balance to my dad\'s account?

My dad had opened a credit account in my name without telling a word to me. He has incurred $6000 credit card debt. My dad said that he would make the payment. Unfortunately, he is out of work now. He can’t make any payment right now. Can I transfer the debt into his name? After all, this is not my debt. I don’t want to involve the credit card company into this. They make take legal step against my dad. What should I do now?

But I don't have money to pay off the debt. What should I do?

Your father committed identity theft which is a crime.  Since he didnt open the account in his own name I would have to assume he has bad credit.  Being unemployed, no one is going to give him a loan or open a credit line for him.  You either have to pay it to prevent yourself from being sued or report him.

PDL's are ILLEGAL in the following states...
AR, AZ, CT, GA, ME, MD, MA, NJ, NY, NC, PA, VT AND DC
OH AND NH have very restrictive low cost interest rate laws.

SOL for all states

Since the account is in your name, so you are responsible for the outstanding debts. You will have to pay all the due debts, otherwise the credit card company can sue you.
