Can I pay the original creditor instead of the collection agency?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.  If the OC has transfered or sold the debt, then no.  Even if the account is assigned to a CA, there are times that creditor will not accept payments. I had clients that sent us the actual checks when they received them, others would simply do a pay direct.  Either way, the CA still gets their commision...you cannot avoid that.

Yep… you can if the creditor doesn’t sell your account to the collection agency.
