An outstanding judgement dated back to 08

I have received a judgement from a collection agency, after trying to validate and research on the judgement, I found out the judgement was entered back in 2008 and the court summon was issued all the way back to 07 all without my knowledge. The law sue occurred a year after a car accident which was my fault, and appearantely the judgement was outstanding for four years. The court summon failed to deliver because they completely messed up my address, and now after I purchased a new vihecle under my name, they all of a sudden want to collect money from me. I\'ve consulted an attorney about this issue and he told me even if I put in a motion to vacate the judgement, I still have to go through trial which I will probably lose because there are no valid defense for me to present in the court. What would be the best way to settle this judgement? If you need more information please let me know, all I need is advice, thank you very much.

How did they servce you?  By mail?  Publication??

You could call the attorney and ask them if they will settle...it is really up to them.
