Should I ignore the letter sent by a CA in Fairhope?

I have received a debt collection letter from a collection agency in Fairhope (Alabama) in 2012. I have ignored the letter. Now, I have received another letter from a collection agency in Fairfield (Alabama). This particular debt is quite old. This debt originated in the year 2007. What should I do with this? Should I pay off the debt? Should I ignore the letter?

What type of debt is t??  WHen was the date of your last payment.  SOL in Alabama is 3-6 years depending on the type of debt.

PDL's are ILLEGAL in the following states...
AR, AZ, CT, GA, ME, MD, MA, NJ, NY, NC, PA, VT AND DC
OH AND NH have very restrictive low cost interest rate laws.

At first ask the collection agency to validate the debt in writing via certified mail with a return receipt request. If they don’t give any reply, then send them a C & D letter. You should also check the SOL period in your state. If it has expired, then the collector won’t be able to take any legal action against you.

This is a credit card debt. I don't even remember the date of last payment on the credit card. It should be in 2007.

First check your credit report and try to find out the actual date of last payment made. However, if no payments were made after 2007, the SOL is past and so you need not worry about this debt.
