I got a call from a collections agency a few month

I got a call from a collections agency a few months a go. He wanted pay ment I told him If I could pay I would But I could not. He calls me back. Later we are trying to work with you kind of stuff was said. I called Him back to ask how old the dept was and He was getting mad.I told him i just want to try to protect my self He did tell me the last activity on my account was 3-1-2007 Florida limitation is Five years He got mad and said he was going to send my stuf over to his lawyer because he felt like i was up to something and hung up. So What can I do to protect my self?
