Will my credit score increase after opening and closing an account?

I have been admitted into a college last month. My mom says that this is a good time to build credit. I want to take a Chase credit card. I plan to use it for 3-4 months. Thereafter, I would pay off the bill and close the credit card account. Will it help to build my credit?

Try to add positive information on your credit report. Keep paying your all outstanding debts on time. The above mentioned tips will help you to improve your credit score gradually with time.

Thanks for the replies. Please tell me what should actually help me to build credit?

No, it will not help you to build your credit. Closing the credit card account will leave a negative impact on your credit score.

Yeah…closing credit card account will hurt your credit score.

It would not help to build credit. Rather, it may hurt your credit score.
