NEVER file bankruptcy for anything under $20,000...I just exited bankruptcy just to save my car and house because they are secured debts. I would NEVER have subjected myself to the hell of chapter 13 for 6,000 bucks. NOT WORTH IT. Not only do you have to pay tons of money to the courts and attorney , but later on down the line you may not be able to afford the chapter 13 or chapter 7 plan. Also, you may need to file later on for real property like a house. Tightening your belt or even adding your income tax return check should take care of your debt. What is the debt for and what state are you in? If you are in a state like Texas then we don't garnish wages for anything other than taxes, child support, and students loans. The earlier poster is right, it is so NOT worth filing. Bankruptcy was pure torture on us because I only made 17 and hour and was tld my plan would be 390 but the trustee raised it to 707! Stay away from filing if you can. Also, in addition to paying your chapter 13 or chapter 7 plan, you still have to pay your regular monthly bills. Essentially it doesn't help you.
